60 FPS Photoreal Gameplay with UE4 & Megascans 80lvl

We now know that interactive photorealism is possible in real-time at 60+ FPS on mainstream hardware with a single 1080Ti, thanks to project Rebirth made with UE4 and our favorite Megascans. Check out a closer look at the project.

In the team’s upcoming tutorial series this summer, Joe Garth will show artists every step of how you can create interactive photorealistic worlds too.

Quixel’s photorealistic cinematic short “Rebirth” was originally revealed during Epic’s “State of Unreal” GDC opening session and it showed the audience an unprecedented level of photorealistic features built with Unreal Engine 4.21. The short was created by three artists at the company known for its photogrammetry expertise using its Megascans 2D and 3D physically-based asset library.

To prepare for the project, Quixel spent a month in ice-cold rain and thunderstorms. The team scanned locations in Iceland, returning with over 1,000 scans, capturing a wide range of eco-regions and natural environments to feature in the short.
