Latest Yuzu Emulator Build Boosts Performance in Nintendo Switch Games by 40-100%

Yuzu, the Nintendo Switch emulator for PC, is continuing to make progress at breakneck speed. The latest ‘Canary’ build (version 1814) has boosted performance in games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokemon Let’s Go, Splatoon 2 and others by nearly double the speed. We don’t have to take the developer’s word for it because BSoD Gaming already published a video analysis of this new Yuzu build. With his build (i7 8700K @5.0GHz, 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM, GTX 1080Ti 11GB, 256GB NVME M.2 SSD), he reported frame rate boosts ranging from 40 to 100 percent, depending on the game. Of course, there’s a lot to be done before Yuzu can catch up to the progress of Cemu, the excellent Wii U emulator for PC we’ve previously covered on Wccftech. Then again, it is progressing faster…

CES 2019: Dell’s stuck a Core i9 desktop CPU in their new Alienware Area-51m laptop

While everyone else was busy adding Nvidia’s new RTX graphics chips to their laptops at this year’s CES, Dell’s been busy with something else entirely for their new flagship Alienware Area-51m laptop. As well as being the first laptop to bear their new Alienware Legend design, it’s also the world’s first laptop to have a full-blown desktop Intel Core i9-9900K CPU crammed inside it. And to top it all off, it’s even upgradeable, too. (more…)

Activision Blizzard Stock Plummets Ten Percent After Parting Ways With Bungie, Developer Of ‘Destiny’

We brought you the breaking news yesterday that Activision was breaking with Bungie of both Halo and Destiny fame. Bungie will receive full publishing and intellectual property rights for their popular Destiny franchise, which came as a shock to many. Now today we’ve got a good indication of what Wall Street thinks of a Bungie-less Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI). In a statement to the U.S. SEC Activision said, “Bungie (will) assume full publishing rights and responsibilities for the Destiny franchise. Going forward, Bungie will own and develop the franchise. As a result, the Company does not expect to recognize material revenue, operating income or operating loss from the Destiny franchise in 2019.” Activision stock down big after split with Bungie Prices plunged by ten percent today, erasing over $3 billion in market cap for the mega-publisher. It’s not hard to…

CES 2019: DisplayLink Showing Wireless Adapter Reference Design For Oculus Rift

At CES 2019 DisplayLink is showing off a reference design for a wireless adapter for the Oculus Rift. The company first showed off wireless VR all the way back at E3 2017. The prototype, in cooperation with Intel, became the official HTC Vive wireless adapter in 2018. There already is a wireless adapter on the market for the Rift- the TPCast. But the HTC Vive adapter powered by DisplayLink seems to have less issues and an easier setup, so this could be a welcome addition to the Rift. Of course, the main issue with all existing wireless VR adapters is price. Both the TPCast and HTC adapter sell for around $300. This is almost as much as the entire Rift package price- now $349. The fact DisplayLink powers the HTC adapter raises the tantalizing possibility that…

Intel cuts integrated graphics but not the price of new Coffee Lake CPUs

Intel is disabling the integrated graphics silicon on its upcoming ‘F’ designated processors, yet, despite the dead silicon and nerfed functionality of processors, it looks like Chipzilla is expecting customers to drop the same amount of cash on these hobbled chips as their fully graphics’d up siblings. Even viewed as a gamer using a discrete graphics card, it’s awfully tough to see Intel taking away functionality without feeling short-changed by the whole ordeal. After all, according to the official pricing list for Intel’s upcoming F series SKUs, Intel is seemingly retaining all the same CPU specs to their graphics-toting counterparts, including the price. The upcoming 9th Gen processors will retain all the same Coffee Lake functionality as their full-fat counterparts. That means the same 14nm process, TDP, core counts, and base and boost frequencies. With 14nm fab space running short as of late – we’re…
